Description

Podere Maremma Toscana is an authentic holiday home with private pool in Castiglioncello Bandini for 11 people in southern Tuscany. Once a small convent, now a beautifully renovated property where you can enjoy the Tuscan sun, a unique private pool and panoramic views of the Tuscan hills and the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Interior: all charm and authenticity
Enjoy this artful Tuscan nature house near Cinigiano in the Tuscan Maremma with original terracotta floors and wooden beams. Rustic details make it particularly atmospheric and exude history and character. There are four bedrooms on the first floor. Cosy dining with friends and family is an essential part of the Tuscan lifestyle. Take advantage of the kitchen and the beautiful caminetto, where you can cook in authentic Tuscan fashion. In the winter months, the traditional, wood-fired pizza oven is a wonderful tool.

Exterior: Panoramic view of the hills and Tyrrhenian sea
Outside is pure enjoyment with a private pool (12x5m), which is completely ecological. The water is treated via salt electrolysis, a system that is checked regularly. Salt electrolysis ensures soft, crystal-clear water without chlorine smell or stinging eyes.
Around the pool is a spacious terrace with sun loungers, tables and chairs, making it the perfect place for outdoor dining, enjoying an aperitif or alfresco dinner. The view is breathtaking, with panoramic views of the hills of the Tuscan Maremma, stretching to the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Surroundings:
The central location of this authentic natural house makes it easy to explore Tuscany. Visit the charming towns of Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano, Siena and Grosseto. Don't forget to relax in the region's famous thermal baths such as Saturnia (39 km), Bagni San Filippo (46 km) and Bagno Vignoni (45 km). The cities of Florence and Siena are easily accessible by car and there is a good bus service from Paganico. Rome and Firenze can also be reached by train from Grosseto.

For those who drive electric, there are charging stations in the surrounding villages.

Market:

In Arcidosso and Cinigiano there is a market on Tuesdays. There is also a market somewhere on other days.

Literature and film:

Pitigliano, Sorano and Sovana host invaluable Etruscan Necropolises, unique to this region. D. H. Lawrence wrote a compelling work on the Paesi etruschi, the Etruscan lands in central Italy. Together with his friend Earl Brewster, he traversed Etruria, visiting Cerveteri, Tarquinia, Vulci and Volterra, among others. Italy felt like his second home, a land where he often stayed. In the Maremma Toscana, the southern part of Tuscany, he found a resonance for his restless and melancholic soul.

Tuscany has always attracted Italy's greatest film directors to film there. Franco Zeffirelli, Roberto Benigni, Bernardo Bertolucci,

Jane Campion, Andrey Tarkovsky and Alice Rohrbacher, to name just a few directors, filmed in Tuscany.

Wine:

Podere Maremma Toscana is also an excellent base to explore the surrounding vineyards and wineries and participate in wine tastings.

The wine regions of Montecucco, Montalcino and Montepulciano are nearby, and the wines produced here are legendary. The Brunello di Montalcino is considered one of the best in the world, along with the famous Italian reds Barolo and Sassicaia. But the Morellino di Scansano and Montecucco wines also have great potential. DOC Montecucco is located in southern Tuscany, between the appellations of Brunello di Montalcino and Morellino di Scansano.

Southern Tuscany also has the greatest concentration of organic and biodynamic viticulture.

The holiday home's guide has chosen a carefully curated selection of vineyards for its guests and offers recommendations to visit some cantine.

Beaches:

Although most tourists do not visit Tuscany for a beach holiday, the region does offer some charming coastal towns, with beaches that are among the most beautiful in Tuscany and easily accessible. Just keep in mind that travel time can be quite long.

The European environmental organisation Fee (Foundation for Environmental Education) has awarded 15 Tuscan seaside resorts with the prestigious ‘blue flag’ (bandiera blu). Our favourites are the white sandy beaches of Cala Violina, the Tombolo di Feniglia (Riserva naturale della Feniglia), which stretches for 7 km and reaches as far as Ansedonia with its beautiful pine forest, Marina di Alberese in south-west Grosseto, the beaches of the Parco Naturale della Maremma, and the picturesque fishing village of Castiglione della Pescaia. The beach at Marina di Grosseto is also an excellent choice.

Cala Violina, located just south of Follonica between Cala Martina and Cala Civette, is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Gulf of Follonica. It has been recognised as one of the 11 most beautiful beaches in Italy. Its clear seabed, formed by seagrass beds of Posidonia oceanica, and fine sand make it unique. The beach can be reached on foot or by sea, as it is only a few kilometres from the port of Puntone.

The walk to Cala Violina or Cala Martina leads you through a vast holm oak forest, making the experience even more special.

Hiking trails:

The Val d'Orcia and the surrounding nature reserves around Monte Amiata form some of the most beautiful hiking areas in Tuscany. Several of these nature reserves can be reached on foot from Podere Santa Devota, such as the Riserva Naturale Poggio all'Olmo and the Riserva Naturale Monte Labbro. Detailed maps are in the property's guidebook.
