Spain is an absolute favourite destination. Considering the culture, climate and friendliness of its people, we can easily see why so many foreigners settle there and why it is among the top three holiday destinations in Europe. I’m not saying we should all go and live there, and my Spanish is awful. But I am saying it’s a great place all year around. We have a wide selection of holiday rentals on the Costa Blanca, right around to holiday houses on the Costa de la Luz which borders on the Algarve region in Portugal, where you can enjoy a holiday villa too. They all have private swimming pools, many of which are heated. As we have selected these houses ourselves, we can guarantee comfort all year around, including heating in winter and comfortable fittings in all seasons.
Let’s start with winter. There are those who leave the cold to go to even colder, getting the insurance ready for eventual broken limbs. Then there are those of us who are anxiously waiting for temperatures to go back into positive double digits. Instead of waiting, this year I decided to pack my bags and rent a holiday house in Spain. With two good friends. We took off with our laptops and decided to treat ourselves to a place where the sun shines during our dreary grey and rainy winter. We rented a villa, had lunch by the pool, took long walks in the sunshine and actually got some work done. A week later we were relaxed and suddenly, winter didn’t seem so endless. We played the remote working card, and it did the trick.
Springtime in the south of Spain and we’re looking at summer temperatures where we live. I haven’t tried it yet but anyone who’s been there will tell you that swimming pools are in use, bars are starting to open, and dress-code is summer clothing with a cardigan in the evening. And the flowers! Fragrant flowers around every corner, exuberant and lush green gardens showing off their finest season. The sea is still chilly but swimming pools are usually heated, not that there’s much need for that if you ask me. A holiday villa on the Costa del Sol doesn’t sound so bad while we wait for summer.
Need we mention summers in Spain? From spontaneous beach parties to exclusive night clubs, outdoor concerts and bars open until all hours. Looking for some peace and quiet? Many of our villas have absolutely huge gardens, where you can only hear the sound of silence, and nature. Bliss. And you’re never far from a bustling town, go spend the day at the beach, the long summer evenings in a white village, there is a plethora of things to do.
Autumn is more of an Indian summer, when the tourists go back home, children are back at school and there is a gentler vibe than summer, still stretching warm temperatures as though winter would never arrive. And let’s face it, a real harsh winter never really arrives. Worried about getting bored after the busy summer? Don’t be, there is always plenty to do! Visit Andalusia or grab your bicycle and discover the Costa Blanca.
I could also mention the many cultural visits that are best done anytime but in summer. Spain has an extremely rich history, discover the palace of Alhambra in Granada and the city of Sevilla. Enjoy paella on the Costa Blanca as it originates from Valencia and fresh fish from the day’s catch on any coast.
What about Ibiza? One of the most exciting Spanish islands, where you can enjoy fabulous weather all year round. No need to conjure up a hippy-lifestyle to relax and discover another side of this fabulous island, with both its party side and authentic side. Rent a holiday villa in Ibiza and simply relax.
