How do you get to Île d’Yeu?
Île d’Yeu is car-free, so you park your car at the departure port on the mainland and board the ferry there. You can take the ferry to Île d’Yeu from three different ports:
Fromentine (open year-round)
Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie (open from April through September)
Barbâtre on Noirmoutier (high season only)
Tip: Book your ferry tickets to Île d’Yeu well in advance online to ensure you have a spot, and check the ferry company’s baggage policies beforehand.
Rent a bike on Île d’Yeu
Since the bicycle is the main mode of transportation on the island, you’ll find several providers offering bike rentals on Île d’Yeu right at the arrival harbor in Port-Joinville—pretty convenient, right? Hop off the ferry onto your bike, and let the adventure begin.
Are you staying overnight and do you have a lot of luggage? Don't worry—there are smart solutions for that:
Lender’s Luggage Service: Some bike rental companies will deliver your luggage to your vacation address for free while you enjoy a bike ride.
Accessories: You can rent a bike with a special luggage trailer.
Local taxi or luggage service: They’ll pick up your suitcases at the ferry and deliver them to your accommodations. Tip: Be sure to book a taxi well in advance, because availability is very limited and demand is high!
Our tips: Are you visiting during peak season (July/August)? Be sure to reserve your rental bike online in advance. Also, be sure to ride along the coastal paths; they’re completely closed to motorized traffic in the summer!
