This festival was created about fifty years ago, as the American film festival of Deauville. It takes place in September and the finest films and most glamourous stars turn up for a more refined and less glitzy version of the Cannes Festival.
Deauville in itself is worth the visit. Napoleon’s half-brother fell in love with the area, and decided to create a seaside resort for the rich and richer. The Baron of Rothschild continued what the emperor’s half-brother started, and invested in properties and horses.
Deauville quickly outshined its sister Trouville, and boasts of fabulous properties along the coast, and magnificent “haras”, which are stud farms for the finest horses.
And if you get the chance to escape family and children for a short while, there is the world-known Casino de Deauville that will welcome you at all hours of the day and night, for a gamble, a drink, or a curious look around at this masterpiece of traditional architecture, copied from the Trianon in Versailles.
Rent your holiday house in Normandy and enjoy flirting with the stars while staying in the privacy of your own villa.
And Normandy is filled with wondrous places, the Mont-Saint-Michel being at the top of the list. This world wonder is also a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its Gothic-style Benedictine abbey dedicated to the Archangel Michael perched on its rock. You can access the island at specific times of the day according to the tides. It is a most impressive place that is hard to describe!
Normandy is a world in itself. From historical sites such as the D-Day landings on the beach, excellent cuisine dipped in French culinary tradition, and beautiful landscapes. For horse lovers, the many stud farms strewn along the countryside will thrill you.
